Before printing, confirm the correct physical printer, paper size, orientation and driver settings. Compare the RemPress page with print preview, then run one test print before a large batch. If the physical output is wrong, determine whether the problem comes from the document, RemPress print settings or the Windows printer driver. Understand the three parts of printing When a print result is wrong, there are usually three possible places to investigate: the RemPress document, the RemPress print setup and the Windows/printer-driver settings. Changing all three at once can hide the real cause. Check them in that order. Document Is the page itself the correct size, orientation and layout? RemPress print setup Is the correct printer and intended print option selected? Printer driver Does the Windows driver use the correct paper size, tray, borderless option and orientation? 1. Select the actual printer you intend to use Windows can retain printers that are offline, disconnected or no longer physically attached. A printer being listed in Windows does not always mean the hardware is currently reachable. If you own two identical printer models, pay particular attention to the exact Windows printer instance selected. Identical model names can make it easy to choose the wrong device. Power on the printer. Confirm USB, network or Wi-Fi connection. Choose the correct Windows printer instance. If unsure, print a Windows test page before changing the RemPress document. 2. Match document size and paper size An A4 RemPress document should normally be printed using A4 paper settings unless you intentionally want scaling. If the driver expects a different paper size, the output can shrink, shift or clip. Do not use 'Fit to paper' or driver scaling automatically unless that is genuinely the result you want. 3. Check portrait and landscape Document orientation and printer orientation need to agree. A landscape document sent through a driver configured unexpectedly for portrait can rotate or scale the job. If preview is correct but the physical page rotates or shifts, inspect the printer-driver orientation and paper configuration. 4. Use print preview as a checkpoint Preview should help you confirm the page, orientation and expected placement before paper is used. Look at the whole sheet, not just the centre of the design. If preview differs from the RemPress document, stop before printing and determine why. If preview matches but paper does not, the Windows driver or physical printer setup becomes more likely. Correct page shown Correct orientation Content centred as intended No unexpected white edge in preview No clipping Correct number of pages Correct printer selected 5. White borders and borderless printing Many printers cannot print to the physical edge of every paper type. If a design is edge-to-edge on screen but prints with white margins, the cause may be the printer's non-printable area rather than the document. Borderless printing only works when the printer and driver support a compatible borderless paper size and mode. Selecting borderless in an application cannot create a capability that the printer driver does not offer. Check whether the printer supports borderless output for the exact paper size. Open the manufacturer's printer properties and confirm the borderless setting. Check whether borderless mode enlarges the image slightly; some drivers deliberately overspray beyond the paper edge. Run one test print before producing a batch. 6. If the print is too small, too large or shifted Compare the document size, print-preview size and driver scaling. Common causes include Fit to Page, Scale to Fit, an incorrect paper size or driver-level borderless expansion. Measure a known element on the physical print if necessary. A consistent percentage difference usually points toward scaling rather than object placement. When diagnosing scaling, use a simple test page with a known-size rectangle or ruler measurement instead of a complicated design. 7. Printer shows Ready but is not physically connected Windows print queues can report a printer as available or ready even when the physical USB cable is not connected. RemPress can use Windows and device information, but no desktop application can always infer every printer's real hardware state perfectly across all drivers. If the status looks suspicious, confirm the physical connection and try a Windows test page. This is particularly useful when several saved printer queues use the same model name. 8. Before a large print run Save the RemPress project Print one test copy Check front/back orientation if duplex/manual feed is involved Check crop and margins Check paper type and tray Check text for clipping Check colour and image quality Only then print the full quantity Printing troubleshooting by symptom Preview correct, physical print shifted: check printer driver, paper size, scaling and borderless settings. Preview wrong and print wrong: check RemPress document/page setup and print settings first. White border around edge-to-edge artwork: check the printer's printable area and true borderless support. Wrong identical printer selected: rename Windows printer queues so each physical device is easy to identify. Printer listed but not responding: verify physical connection and print a Windows test page. Rotated output: compare document orientation, RemPress print orientation and driver orientation. Image quality poor: check source image resolution and printer quality settings.
