RemPress Publisher Converter: Limits, Warnings and Failed Files

Understand file limits, approximate previews, compatibility notes and failed conversions in the free RemPress browser tool. Know what to report to support.

The free RemPress browser converter accepts one PUB file up to 25 MiB and produces a .rempress project for supported recovered content. Check its compatibility notes and preview before downloading. If conversion fails, record the stage and message; keep the original file and avoid repeatedly submitting an unsupported or oversized document.

Current published recovery limits

The live converter lists limits of 100 pages, 10,000 objects, 1 MiB of recovered text, 16 MiB of embedded asset data and 30 seconds per conversion stage. These limits were checked on 27 September 2026. Use the live page as the authority if they change.

A file below the upload-size limit can still exceed another limit or contain unsupported structures. A heavily illustrated publication may be demanding even when its page count is modest. A limit message is not evidence that the source is corrupt, and it does not authorise altering the tool to evade its protections.

If the file cannot be selected or read

Confirm that you have the actual .pub file and that its transfer has finished. A shortcut, a web page downloaded by mistake or an incomplete email attachment is not a usable publication. Check the filename and size, then work on a separate copy.

Use the converter’s file chooser if drag and drop is unreliable. The current interface is for one file, not a folder or a batch archive. If the browser becomes unresponsive, save other work and reopen the tool once in a current browser. Keep security protections enabled; there is no need to install an unrelated “repair” extension.

Record the stage of a failed conversion

Distinguish file reading, content recovery, preview and project download. An error before recovery differs from a successfully recovered project whose download was not saved. Record the exact visible message and whether another simple PUB file works through the same route.

Do not perform the same failed operation indefinitely. If a particular file reproducibly reaches the same error, keep the evidence and ask support about that case. If the original application can still open the source, preserve a reference and consider a simpler working copy through an authorised workflow.

Diagnose the source PUB file

Understand the approximate preview

The browser preview is a placement check rather than a full reproduction of the Windows editor. The live page says it shows up to six pages and 250 objects, while the downloaded project includes the exported pages and objects. A preview cap does not automatically mean later pages are absent from the project.

Fonts, wrapping, cropping, mixed formatting and effects may differ in the application. Open the project in RemPress Studio on Windows and inspect every important page. A clean preview does not replace an editing test or a print proof.

Read warnings before approving the result

Supported text and objects may remain editable, while some artwork may be represented as an image. Unsupported items can use visible placeholders. Read the compatibility notes to understand what happened in your document rather than assuming that all objects followed the same route.

A placeholder or image fallback may be acceptable for a historical reference but unsuitable for an active template that needs future changes. Decide against the intended use. If you rebuild a missing element, record that correction and compare it with the source before saving the accepted project.

If the download appears to be missing

Check the browser’s download list and the folder it uses. Confirm whether it saved a .rempress project. Downloading the project does not open it in the website, and the browser tool does not provide a DOCX or direct PDF download.

Use RemPress Studio on Windows to open the project. If Windows does not associate the extension with the application, open it through the app’s Open command. Do not rename the file to another format to make it launch. If it will not open, note the app version and exact message.

File processing and support

The converter’s published description says the document is processed locally in the browser rather than sent to a conversion server. That is separate from choosing to share a document with support. Start a support request with the error, file size, browser version and stage of failure.

If support needs the original, agree how to provide it and check that you are allowed to share its contents. Remove private customer information from screenshots where possible. Do not post a full licence key or payment information in the report.
